Closing Time

Drawing with ballpoint pens is so much fun, I don't know why I don't do it more often.
Twilight Zone marathon is on today and tomorrow.  I missed several episodes that came on in the morning and afternoon because I had to work.  I have to work tomorrow as well, so I'll miss most of those episodes too.  I guess I'll be staying up late tonight.

Almost Closing Time

I hadn't drawn a girl in a while, so there you go.
I can't believe how fast the year has gone.  I probably said that before, but I really can't believe it!  Before I know it the summer will be back.  Aw man.  Slow down!
I ordered a moleskine online, since I couldn't find any in town.  That's just pathetic, two arts and crafts stores downtown within a mile of each other, and yet neither carries Moleskine books.  I'd have to go 45 miles away just to get to an art supply store that actually focuses more on drawing and painting supplies.  That's where online shopping comes in.

Holiday Hours

Holiday hours have me all messed up.  I'm so tired. I've barely even began Christmas shopping, because I haven't had any time.  I think I'll just do it all online this year.  Heck, I don't even know what I want.  I have to put something together.  Give me anything art related, and I'll find a use for it.

Wow, Already?

It seems like yesterday that the summer was just beginning.  Now I'm beginning to feel the effects of the cold setting in, coupled with shorter, darker days.
Happy December!
I've started getting some art and design work pouring in on top of my regular job, so now I've got a lot on my plate, which is good.  Holiday hours are starting up, so that takes me away from my bedroom a lot more.  I hardly have time to think and draw on my own now.  I'm so sleepy, but pretty excited about my new projects.

Any way, here are some drawings I did on Black Friday, the last time I was able to set aside some downtime so that I could sketch.  One is when I came in early, about a half hour before I was supposed to start my shift.  The other was done during my lunch break.  As you can tell, it's pretty much how I was feeling at the time.

Late! Late! Late!

Yeah, I'm pretty late with adding stuff.  I meant to add these yesterday, but I simply forgot.  I've been sticking with pencils, but I'd really like to get back to using my watercolors.  I hate to see it going to waste.
I've been trying to get into looking at sketchbooks online again.  I don't know why people say that it's pointless to look at sketchbooks, I love looking through them.  I find that in many ways the process is more interesting than the final product.  I try to keep old sketchbooks, but they take up too much space, so I end up tearing out pages that I like and then throwing out the rest.  I need some new ideas.

More Digital Sketches (More Colors!)

I've been practicing with vector art, doing my sketches in Illustrator.  It's kind of a start, I guess.  I am learning a bit when coloring the sketches.  At first I thought it would be very difficult and time consuming to make all the color choices, but several techniques that I found out along the way have made it a lot easier and quicker than I thought.  I've been having fun with the brush tool, but I still use the Pen tool from time to time when the brush tool can't do the job.  I hope to make more illustrations in Illustrator, rather than digitally painting all my things in Photoshop...although Photoshop is still fun to use.

Must...Draw...Something...

It's been a tough week for sketches.  I've been trying to force myself to do something, anything.  It's probably not the best thing to do, but I had to add something to the blank pages of my sketchbook.

A Bit of Color

So far I've been showing what I do with pencil and ballpoint pen on paper.  Well, here are a few that I did in Photoshop.  I've been trying to play around a bit more with the idea of speed painting.   Easier said than done; practice definitely is the key here.

I could have sworn I'd done more colored digital sketches.  Oh well.  Maybe I trashed them after playing around with the paint tool in Photoshop.  I really need to stop doing that.

More Time, Please!

I feel like I don't have a lot of time to do anything.  I've been trying to squeeze sketch sessions into any break I can get.  I've started bringing my sketchbook with me to work so that I can sketch during my breaks.  Sometimes it's great, but most of the time it's pretty frustrating because I only have time to do one sketch, if I'm lucky.  Well, I spent my whole Saturday looking up tutorials, doing more sketches, and playing around with digital painting.  I got a couple full body sketches drawn, for once.

Nothing Much to Say

Really.  I was in the drawing mood for once in the past week, only most of the stuff I sketched were unfinished.  By that I mean huge chunks were missing, like limbs and facial features.  I've considered taking a small sketchbook with me to work so that I can draw during my lunch break.  I'm hoping that I'm not going to spend that time just staring at a blank piece of paper.

Stuff and Nonsense

No, I'm not dead.  A lot of stuff has been messing up my time, and I've been dealing with bouts of art block that had pretty much taken over most of August.  I need to get my act together and manage my time a bit better, especially now since I seem to not have very much time left over these days.

Anyway, here are some sketches I pulled together.  It just happened to be a coincidence that they share a common theme.

Thank goodness we can upload multiple pictures at once.  Five doesn't seem like a lot, but whatever.

For the People

It's been almost two weeks.  I've still been sketching, but one subject had been taking up a lot of my time and paper (maybe more about that later).  Other than that, I've been doing some stuff for people on Deviant Art.  It'll at least give me some practice with my drawings.

That's not all of them, but I'm kind of having trouble locating the rest.  Why am I so disorganized?!

More soon!

Story Time

I've had a busy week, so I wasn't on the computer all that much.  Oh well.  I'll have more time someday.

On a more positive note, here are some sketches from old children's stories I've read.  I love fairy tales.  I've flipped through various books to see the illustrations.  I love what illustrators can do with pen and ink, or how they can utilize watercolors.

The poor Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz, being terrorized by some crows.  This is the first illustration I started having to do with a story for children.  I can't believe I was able to draw those birds.
The Tin Woodsman from the Wizard of Oz.  Usually I'm not sure what colors I will use when I start to add more detail to my drawings, but this one seems pretty easy.  It's going to be fun playing around with all the browns and greens of the forest.
The White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.  As you can see, he is very obsessed with time.
This one here is my favorite.  I'd planned on using only pen and black ink, and maybe using it as one of the first inside illustrations of the story.  It will be done, eventually.  I keep going back to it.
